Recently, I've had to temporarily go back to dialup with my notebook. As soon as I connect, SOMETHING begins that totally monopolizes the connection for about ten minutes on average. All bandwidth is occupied. I cannot browse or do mail runs until whatever this is decides that it's done. I assume this as been going on all along, but with DSL I didn't notice it.

I'm assuming that this is some auto-update thing, but I have turned off all auto-updates on all software as far as I am able to locate such options. I've run numerous scans for malware/viruses/trojans with F-Prot, Ewido and Windows Defender, and they're always clean.

Below is one of many HJTs I've done at various points. All have the same stuff.

Is there any way I can find out what's doing this and remove it?

As always, thanks for any help.

You can checkmark and fix this in HijackThis:
    O2 - BHO: CVirtualDNSObj Object - {86C510E9-97EF-4749-914F-0280247BE3A6} - C:\WINDOWS\VirtualDNS.dll (file missing)

Its probably Tor making it slow, try disabling that and see how it works.

    Just check & remove?

Tor's out of use during this, as is the browser, but I'll try removing it.

P.S.: I've discovered that Java update turned itself back on at some point, and I've turned if off again. Dunno if this will make any difference.

Yes, you can also try with Privoxy disabled as well.
