    easy, all!
after many years of hard labour my old acer has given up the ghost.
being skint, i am now looking to buy a cheap second hand laptop primarily for music production. i want to be able to comfortably run reason 5 and cubase sx5 with out any crashing etc. litterally not bothered about anything else. will be running xp on it as i don't see the point in anything above. ( unless it will run faster, which i'm presuming it won't?)
any ideas would be much appreciated.
also i can salvage two 1 gig ram disks(?) out of my old one to upgrade it.
    much love
    alex

    cheers.
but won't be needing speakers either as i have everything outboard(?).
thinking i'll just need a decent cpu with at least 2 G ram.
just wondering what would be a good solid make/model thats no frills.

You might consider looking at the refurbished Dell laptops at

    www.newegg.com

I've bought 4 of them from there in the past 2 years and have happy with them.

What was your old Acer laptop model? I can search on eBay for you.

ok. whats better. a processor thats 2.2ghz(or somthin like that) or a dual 1.7ghz?
    might sound stupid but .
also, why do manufacturers have the mouse pad more on the left handside? surely it makes more sense having it on the right so you can use your left hand on the keyboard more easily.

Stay away from single-core processors and focus on dual-core processors.

An Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00 GHz or faster should do okay for you.

And it should have at least 2 GB of RAM.
