What's the deal installing PHP Engine

    I have installed MYSQL 3.23 and the supposed PHP engine on my xp pro box and thus far am unable to get the PHP or PHP3 files to register with any programs, I edited the files with notepad and still am not able to get thru to MYSQL or the PHP engine even though it tells me that they are installed and running fine...

    Any Suggestions?
