what's the difference between AdAware and Ewido? i thought that AdAware was supposed to be the best anti-spyware scanner??? am i wrong?

i run Ad-Aware and Spybot S & D as my two anti-trojan programs, but it appears from reading many posts that Ewido is the "new" most recommended. i am familiar with the other two and am not ready for change...unless i have to of course.

what is the major difference between them and should i install ewido and learn how to use it and get rid of the other two?

hi, Adaware is for spyware while ewio is mianly for trojans and some spyware! Both should be used as part of your general defence agianst threats from the internet along with a firewall and other tools!

Here's some free tools to keep you from getting infected in the future.

To stop reinfection get spywareblaster from

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/downloads.html

get the hosts file from here.Unzip it to a folder!

    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

put it into : or click the mvps bat and it should do it for you!

    Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
    Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
    Win 98\ME = C:\WINDOWS

ie-spyad.Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected

when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Arovax shield: stop your computer from being hijacked!

Winpatrol, protects your computer from hijackers !

Use spybot's immunize button and use spywareblaster' enable
protection once you update it. you can put spybot's hosts file into
    your own and lock it.

I would also suggest switching to Mozilla's firefox browser, it's safer, has
a built in pop up blocker, blocks cookies and adds. Mozilla Thunderbird is also a good
    e-mail client.

Another good and free browser is Opera!

spybot is for general spyware and malware, not for trojans!

The new, current version of "Ewido" can be run concurrently with the programs you already have and many others. There is a compatibility list provided at the download site. "Ewido" will continue to run after the 30 day trial period, with some alterations. Updates run manually, and it then provides a good scan check.

I run the security programs listed below. They have served me very well for a long time (fingers crossed).
    {redoak}

    ZoneLabs free firewall
    AVG anti-virus
    Ad-Aware SE Personal
    Spybot S and D
    SpywareGuard
    SpywareBlaster
    EWIDO- extended trial version
    A-squared
    CWShredder
    Bazooka

All of these are free or have a free/trial version.
