Ok, I know everyone after searching the internet has run across a program that they downloaded and now couldn't do without. I thought it would be great to share what your one favorite program is so that other people can try them out as well. So I'll start. The program I have found that has been most useful to me is Analog X proxy, I've used it on a couple different networks for sharing the internet and it has performed superbly, the other night I even heard it mentioned on TechTV. So that's my Favorite, what's yours?

There's the standard ones that everyone really needs at one time or another (winzip, acrobat reader, tweakui, etc) but I think the best would be ZoneAlarm. I have a disk of utilities that I immediately install on new systems and that's one of them.

By far, Ghost.

Makes backing up your PC as easy as pie (especially if you have 2 hard drives installed).

I really don't have a favorite since everytime I get one it causes me problems and it's off that list faster then you can imagine and called all sorts of names.:D :D

Well, since some of theothers have been taken, I can safely say that Irfan View is a great graphics viewer.

Free makes it all the better!

I'd have to say Guidescope is a favorite of mine. I like having better control over my web surfing and this IMO is the best ad bloking software available.

http://www.guidescope.com/home/

Z/A is a must have, or at least a should have there is no need to be stupid and be out there without a firewall and Z/A is arguably the best out there, yes I like Tiny Personal, but it is not user friendly and I do not mind saying that I cannot figure out just how to configure the thing.

I've got the GRC "batch of URLs" loaded into my restricted sites so whenever I've run adaware since then I come up clean.

I used to have Lavasoft and Inoculate it PE, call me crazy or whatever but I am without any A/V protection at this time........I just won't open attachments and roll dice for a while.......Living on the edge of disaster I know.

The one other program I like is EasyUninstall by OnTrac

http://www.ontrack.com/easyuninstall/

Saved my bacon a time or two and worth it's weight in gold.

BTW, I think Angel has the right approach.......

"I have a disk of utilities that I immediately install on new systems".........

I haven't used any AV protection in about 3 years and I wouldn't consider myself living on the edge of disaster.
If you know what you're doing, you won't get a virus, bottom line.

marioh,

"If you know what you're doing, you won't get a virus, bottom line."

I agree 100%........I say "living on the edge" because I for one can have "blonde moments" haven't had one where potential disaster may have ocurred.

I did let someone use my PC to play freecell, and when I walked by the mouse cursor was on the "Download to Disk......open the attachment" and about ready to click when I heard.......

"Oh cool my sister sent you an e-mail can I open this?" NOOOOOOOOOOO DO NOT DO THAT PLEASE!!!!!!!!

"Why not?" ................never mind I'm sure you have a copy at home on your PC open it there Okay?.......

Turns out this attachment was an .exe file called heat .exe .......It is harmless I checked it out later actually pretty cool because it melts every thing on your screen in a scary fashion looks like paint not dry yet being washed down the screen.

Like you say know what you are doing and you are fine.....:D
