I need to look into an uncompressed mirror backup of IE7 and find the URL for a previous home page.

    Thanks

Home pages are stored in the registry. You may find it in the temp internet files if your backup kept them.

You can import the imaged registry into your present one to read it, or, more safely, you can use Mitec's Registry File Viewer to read the imaged registry.

Thanks for response - Is the registry somewhere in the XP WINDOWS folder? I'll do a string search on key words. Regedit has no search engine or path.

The registry hives are files with no file ending in Windows\system32\config

Regedit does have search--Find, under the Edit menu.

You might look at the History folder, too, if you are trying to find some site you went to before.
