Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options".
Make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\desbyhdw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\systemupdate.exe

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer.

When you are sure you are clean turn it back on and create a restore point.

Go here and do an online virus scan.

Be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the exact file name and file location so you can delete it yourself.

IMPORTANT!: I highly recommend that you go to Windows update and install all "Critical Updates and Service Packs" ASAP!. This will patch numerous security holes in IE and Windows. Many baddies get on your machine by taking advantage of these vulnerabilities. As your machine stands now it is wide open to attack from all sorts of nasties. You need to get these updates IMMEDITELY!

Thanks for the prior help on removing a virus. It worked great. Unfortunately, now no matter what I seem to constantly have some of the same adware on my computer. Could anyone take a look at my hijack this log to see where it may be hiding. Thank You

Ad Aware does not find any other adware. However, AdwareSpy says there are 8 files and 407 registry keys. I do not have the full version of that software. Is adaware enough or do I need to buy the adwarespy software too? Can you tell me if there is one program better than another? I don't know if I should worry about what adwarespy says or not. I have spyblaster running as well, windows firewall and Hometrends' internet security software running. I was just wondering if I need to do anything else or leave well enough alone. Internet Explorer seems to be blocking the pop-ups. I am really only worried about whether my machine is still vulnerable to another virus, trojan, hijacker, etc. Thanks again, sorry to bother.

AdwareSpy is a scam. It will falsely report that you are infected with x y an z to con you into buying their sorry software! (n) Get rid of it and Stick with Adaware and Spybot. See here for more info on AdwareSpy:

Check this out for info on how to tighten your security settings and some good free tools to help prevent this from happening again.

Trendmicro PC-Cillin told me it found Troj dloader.ocx. It did not tell me what to do and did not find it in it's database. Here is another copy of my Hijackthis log. Any Ideas?
