I think Mark raises a valid point here.
With all the the bad news that is frequently aired on TV about data breach ( Millions have been affected, news at Eleven!), scamming via Internet and unsolicited phone calls...and even letters, ads for "improved security if you buy NOW!" etc. , some folks think they should be paranoid, and some may be less savvy than others about such things, and view those news article and broadcasts (or ads) as dire straights for these days of modern times.
But many will resist change, in whatever fashion, and will be cautious- if not down right suspicious and paranoid.

You're absolutely right. I felt like a scammer when dialing random phone numbers... who would possibly trust me?

When I sent the letter, I also included a printout of her profile (attached). I was kind of hoping that it would offer some legitimacy to it -- perhaps the avatar, signature, or something else would strike the reader as familiar. So far, no response and also no returned mail.

I'd like to give a big thanks to Cookiegal for all of her behind-the-scenes investigative work in trying to track poochee down. She's put in countless hours researching and even drafting the letter. Thank you!

You Karen, and Mike certainly deserve kind words for the time and work invested to seek information regarding her status. (y)

I know of no other forum where such efforts would have gone to such lengths,
I just wish the Pooch sees all this and will know how much this community cares.

Careful Karen, this should be a somber thread, and perhaps I shouldn't have posted that, but your backhanded compliment has not gone unnoticed ;)

(uh, I got a brief popup that said Mike admired my comment, but it's gone now, and rightly so.)
But we're all here for poochee, that's the important thing.

I'm sure poochee would understand and even want us to make this discussion a bit lighthearted but yes, it has strayed a bit.

It's been quite some time now,
I was hoping at best that Poochee would pop up saying Oh, just had a little setback, you worry warts...
and at the very least hoping for news from the efforts made to contact the family...
which would have been posted straight away by Mike or Karen...

Neither of those hopes have happened yet, so it's becoming more and more discouraging... I don't want to be the one that expresses that though which we might all have in the back of our minds...
but having said that, it brings that thought more to the forefront, doesn't it?...
    sorry folks...

But they say no news is good news...
but starting to have my doubts about that old adage.

Yes, it is discouraging and we definitely would have posted any news right away, one way or the other.

It's interesting that the letter was never returned "undelivered" so I guess whoever received it was doubtful and decided not to reply. :( Unfortunately, at this point, I think any further attempts to contact them may be perceived as harassment.

We did our very best. Since my last post Mike even paid out of his own pocket to have access to certain documents that we thought might provide some clues but to no avail. Also, due to the limited capabilities of the search feature here, he took the time to create and export a dump of every one of poochee's posts to a Word document (over 21,000 pages) which I then spent countless hours searching with various key words and combinations looking for any clue, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. I found out a lot of information and know so much more about poochee now than I ever did before but wasn't able to turn up anything helpful in finding out what's happened to her. :(
