hi!, i am in my first year of an industrial/manufaturing engineering undergrad program and my specialization is in robotics. some of the machines and devices we will build will be software controlled (i.e. programmable) and have to be controlled with any device that can communicate wirelessly (like mobile phones, pdas, laptops, pcs etc.)

this requires knowledge of a platform independent language. i have a discount voucher from the university for java or .net courses. i already know quite a bit of java, but not enough to meet the university`s requirements.

the question is: What should I opt for, .Net or Java???? Any other platform independent language?
