Having broadband running 24/7 I feel the need to use a good hardware firewall.

My modem is a SpeedTouch 330 USB ADSL modem, so whichever unit I buy I'd prefer it to be compatible with this modem, though not essential.

I use http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/ for file sharing over the net which I would not want to hinder or have conflict, apart from that, security and no loss of performance is my criteria.

I understand that a firewall which offers SPi is a pre-requisite. I was thinking of choosing from these 3 here .....

Comments and advice most welcome. Thanks ! :)

Your biggest problem is that your are using a USB modem and most routers/firewalls require an ethernet connection.

Is there a particular reason you need a hardware firewall vs a software firewall?

And most of your links don't work or just go to the main page.

Ethernet is a network standard/connection. Its what most networking devices use for connecting to other devices. For example the Linksys BEFSX41 requires an ethernet, aka 10/100 or RJ-45, connection. To use one of these you would need to purcahce an ethernet card for your computer, replace the DSL modem, and then buy the seperate firewall.

You can get Sygate or ZoneAlarm software firewalls that are free and they would not require you to replace your DSL modem or for that matter buy anything. It also seems to me something like the 3CR87095 is much more then a personal user would need.
