At one time, Toshiba was the one to get; but, there have been a lot of buzz on the net by deissatisfied Toshiba owners who are having lots of problems.

I have a Compaq and an Averatec, both over a year old. I am very well satisfied with both of them.

In any case, avoid Celeron and Duron processors if you stray from these that you linked to.

with the baragains thru dell, pricing at costco, office max, etc..... for all that you want, i'd personally never buy one on ebay.

Warranty is very important when purchasing a laptop. Will you get the warranty the laptop should have if its bought off eBay? And if there is a warranty then it likely started when the laptop was intially sold.

That's a good point. Repairs on laptops aren't usually feasible.

    Examples:
Laptop keyboard -- around $350, give or take a little
Main board for laptop -- new laptop is cheaper
Sound card for laptop -- new laptop is cheaper
Video card for laptop -- new laptop is cheaper
Replacement display for laptop -- $650, give or take a little

When I purchase a laptop, I always get a two-year warranty for the above reasons. They just aren't fixable.
