Which version of Java should I download?

Hi,
Since I got XP installed on my computer, I seemed to lose Java, as whenever I got into chats it says I need to install Java. All I need to know is what version I need to download and from where?

Not to confuse, but the newest 1.5beta works fine also. It's beta, but I've had 0 problems with it.
