Why are Word and Excel and other files 'protected'?

    You can't run a macro unless you do many settings changes.

    WHY does microsoft STILL open file sin 'protected mode' - or whatever it's calleD?

    yes... so that's what i mean.
    for 99% of people, macro's a turned off?
    why not have it so that files open in protect view ONLY if they have a macro?
