Are you using a Windows XP CD or a Recovery CD?

Have you checked for fingerprints and scratches on the CD?

Try to include as much information in one post as possible as opposed to multiple posts.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to need more information as to what's going on here, I'm getting confused.

You're trying to perform a clean install of Windows XP using a Windows XP CD, but the process is stopping at merlin.acs2.

    Is that the situation?

If so, I don't understand what you're talking about with Nero, Notepad, and the rest.

Have you checked the disc for scratched and fingerprints?

How would you open the file on notepad?

If that XP CD doesn't work, do you have a Recovery CD or Recovery Partition that you could use?

Just because it doesn't open on notepad, doesn't mean that the CD is broken.

You may need to order a Recovery Disk (if it's still available from the manufacturer).

I've asked for someone to check out this thread and see if they have any ideas.
