When you boot into Windows normally, press Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Click File.

Click "New Task".

In the box, type explorer.exe and hit Enter.

This should popup the taskbar.

---------------------------------------------------

Next, Click Start.

Click All Programs.

Within this subfolder, you should be able to find an "HP" or "Compaq" folder -- within that, look for an option to create a Recovery Disk.

Once you find this, launch the software and create a Recovery Disk.

Once you've finished this, please let me know.

The Compaq Presario C500 series laptop has 44 models listed at the HP/Compaq support site.

Advise us what the product number(P/N) and model number(M/N) on the sticker is so we can determine the exact model you have.

The C500 series appears to be about 6 years old.
