    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows why I am lagging while I play any game. The one i'm trying now is a very old old old game made in 1996. My computer is a p4 2.4 mhz with 1.26 gigs of ram, and cable internet connection. It should be no problem to run this game but yet I'm choppy and laggy. I tried defragging & registry cleaning with no help and my computer has mcafee security center running at all times and I know i'm virus and spyware free! What can I do to speed up my performance?!?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Why are you running a server at the same time you are playing a game: http://www.spyany.com/files/unsecapp_exe.html ?

    =============================
Game lag can be caused by any number of things not related to your running processes.

In online games, most important is really the server you are on and how many others are on it at the same time. Ping is a part of this factor -- but not the whole story. You are going to see some lag anytime your ping is consistently over a hundred.

The second thing is the complexity of the map and the amount of detail combined with your graphics card capability and the detail settings you have for it.

I suspect this old graphics adapter is the principal source of the problem -- you really should get something newer with more onboard memory: Video Controller Name : SiS 661FX

You also need to experiment with reduced detail settings, and perhaps disabling such things as Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering if they are on your graphics options.

You can also be lagging due to overheating issues with either the processor or video card.

    what server am I running?

    and b.t.w.

sometimes its fine....I will play for an hour or sometimes 5 minutes and it will start to lag. even if i quit the game and go back into it the lag is still there. I have to restart my computer, then the lag will go away. But it always comes back

That's definitely an indication of a resource issue or perhaps heat.

The server is the application represented by these processes, I posted a link to the explanation:

If I leave my computer on at all times and leave programs running could that be what is causing this?

b.t.w. the unsecapp.exe is gone after I restarted my comp, it might have been from that max tech scan going on

It could be if you are running programs that do not properly release memory when you close them.

Downloaded screensavers, by the way, are notorious for this.

You have plenty of installed ram though, so I really think the issue is the video card memory rather than onboard ram. You have only 64 mb -- which is pretty minimal -- although it should be capable of running older (pre 2000) games.

Why don't you post a HijackThis scanlog and we'll look for somethings that might not have shown up in the other report:

Download and install HijackThis using the "self extractor". Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

Given the amount of ram and the processor speed, I don't think that configuration should raise any problems, unless McAfee is misbehaving.

Again, the most likely cause is the insufficiency of the graphics chip -- is it an onboard one?
