    Here's how to 'shoot the messenger'

    Windows XP Home Edition
    1. Click Start->Control Panel
    2. Click Administrative Tools
    3. Click Component Services
    4. Double-click Services Local
    5. Double-click "Messenger" to bring up the options panel
    6. Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties
    7. Click the STOP button
    8. Select Disabled or Manual on the Startup Type drop-down menu
    9. Click OK

    Also, unless I missed it, I don't see a firewall on your PC.

    With a firewall, you can/should block the following ports that the messenger uses:

    TCP ports 135, 139, and 445
    UDP ports 135, 137, and 138

    I use to have Zone Alarm but it stuffed up and the True Vector Service kept on blocking everything. I uninstaled it this week. What else could I use instead of Zone Alarm? Must be free!
