Could be a cooling issue or the unit is faulty. Cooling wise, it could simply be that it's clogged with dirt/dust and simply needs to be cleaned or a cooling fan may have failed. It could also be a failed component. The component gets hot and stops working.

Nobody like to be corrected, but I think the thread-starer had stated that laptop was on charging mode when he turned it on.

Yes. I asked a specific question if the laptop runs without being on its AC power supply. Its about diagnosing the problem by eliminating the variables.

So it won't/can't run on a battery and you only can only run it on an AC Power supply ?

What is the Make and Model of this laptop ?

Please remove the battery and then try and use the AC power supply with the HP laptop without the battery.

What happens with the AC power supply if it is plugged in and NOT connected to the laptop. Can it stay on and the "Power ON" LED stay lit for an hour ?

I cant know because theres no light or something to indicate that the ac power supply is on or off while its not connected to the laptop.

The only thing to indicate is the small light near the charger adapter in the laptop... Light goes on when charger is plugged...
And when the laptop go off the little light go off also.

That's too bad. Most AC Power Supplies do have an LED so you now when it is plugged-in and the light is on then it is ready to go.

I have to believe then that the Power Circuitry on the notebook has gone bad.

1st run: It lasts ~20 mins and the circuitry warms-up
2cnd run: The circuitry is warm and it shuts down quicker.
