I have been baffled by this problem I am having with my desktop computer with Windows XP.. I cannot seem to figure out why my Internet explorer nor Mozilla Firefox will work. The thing is, everything is working properly with my router (wireless, phone lines, everything is hooked up and working correctly!), but when I try to open IE or Firefox web browser, it will say "Cannot open this page" as if my router was completely shut off.

To add to the confusion, I use ARES to download music and the internet explorer included in the software DOES in fact work. However, to open links or images it will link me to IE or FireFox which then will not open.

Help! Any advice to fix the problem is highly appreciated, thanks.

You could start by uninstalling ARES.
P2P Instructions - We do not support P2P file sharing applications and any threads requesting help for such will be closed. Try your Internet again.

If no luck,

Boot in Safe Mode with Networking. Then, if you can,

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything
