    Dear ballcox:
    Please provide:
Brand, model & model # of your computer or motherboad.
Brand, model & model # of your video / graphics card.
    CPU speed, manufacture
    ram speed & amount
Are any over clocked? If so, set it / them to NL clocking.
HDD capacity; C: free space; C: capacity

Which W7? 32 or 64 bit? Which service pack?

When did the computer last work well?

Have you tried a different monitor? What happened? Please describe the circumstances, if known, related to the onset of the problem; such as but not limited to installation or removal of hardware / software; W7 updates; anti malware updates; other program [ Java, Adobe Flash, et al ] updates.

Verify that the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer & monitor.
    Are there any bent pins?

My1st idea is that your video / graphics card is over heating.
