Hi, I'm buying a new PC that can hopefully handle high-end games and flight sims such as FSX, and picked up a leaflet today from the local shop.
Below are the specs of their top-of-the-range model (£629/ 1100 dollars), do you think it'll do straight off the shelf or shall I ask them to fit a more powerful processor or vid card or whatever?

INTEL QUAD CORE Q6600 2.4 Ghz
4 GB DDR II 667 Mhz RAM
500 GB SATA II HARD DRIVE
    DVD+/- Rewriter & DVD Drive
    9600GS 256Mb PCIE Video
    WIN VISTA Premium Edition

That's pretty good as far as the specs go, but the price seems high for RAM that's 667mhz, and a 256mb video card.

I would expect at least 4gb 800mhz RAM and a 8800GT or 9600GT 512mb video card for that price.

    ^agreed.

Also if you want to attempt to build a PC yourself you can save ALOT of money that way.

If you are going to buy a complete system why not look at an online store, in my experience they will be cheaper almost 100% of the time. Obviously problems with repair times IF something goes wrong, but its a case of weighing up the pros and cons.

If you are getting a new system, and dont necessarily want keyboard, mouse, LCD etc have a look at www.aria.co.uk they do some nicely priced base units, as a comparison to yours this is one of their machines (@£699.95)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz Processor + aftermarket cooler
    OCZ 4GB PC2-8000 1000MHz DDR2 Memory
XFX nVIDIA GeForce 9600GT 'XXX Edition' 512MB Graphics
320GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive
    22x Serial ATA DVDRW
OCZ 900W ModXStream Modular Power Supply
