I'm running Win 2K on a P3 at 1Gig. An Asus board w/ the Intel chip. I have been surfing this helpful lil site for a solution, but to no avail.
Nortons utilities can't complete a scan on start, and up pops a msg. " failed to ?? reg. handle ATIpoll.
Of course this is all above the shut down problem....

Thanx in advance to any help, articles, advice, or slaps for being computer illiterate

Have you tried reinstalling Norton? This might take care of part of your problem.

You could try this to force any apps that are hanging at shutdown to be forced close.

Edit HKEY_USER\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop and add value AutoEndTasks REG_SZ. Set it to 1.

Edit HKEY_USER\YourUserId\Control Panel\Desktop and add value AutoEndTasks REG_SZ. Set it to

    1. This forces any task, that does not respond to the shutdown, to end.

Keep in mind that this unceremoniously kills the apps, so if you make sure that you close any open programs while in Word or any other Office type app.
