I would like to forward this message to Rollin 'Rog who tried to help me with this problem. It was a window appearing on startup saying it was looking for a driver for a PC Multimedia device. I had formated my hard drive and installed Win 98 on my Dell desktop pc. Your suggestion was to try and get the info from the pc manufacturer, since you had tried the net to try and find the driver there for me. Fortunately for me , there was an advanced pc class at a votech school here, and the teacher was a Dell tech. He said sometimes this problem can be solved by using the original installation disk that came with the pc, which came with Win 95. He was right. It worked.
Thanks again. I hope this might help someone else in the future.

Thanks for that update Conrad, yes that's a good reminder to ask whether the pc came with a prior installation disk. I just assumed you only had the Win98 one you installed.

Nice to hear you're taking classes. It's been many years since I took any computer classes and just about everything I learned (programming mostly) has faded into the fog of techno history. :D
