I bought my machine with windows me installed and I want to go to win 98. I have tried to run my 98 disc with no luck. I keep getting a message saying that I must first uninstall me. Can someone help me with this project? Tks.

Yep, you're going to have to uninstall Me.
Best bet is to format your hardrive (clearing everything) and then instal 98 from scratch.

Few things to make sure of:
    a) you have a startup disc - it will load up dos initially so you can install win98, as well as supply dos with drivers to read your CD-ROM drive so it detect the win98 cd
    b) make sure you have win98 full version. upgrade won't do.
    c) make sure you have all your drivers ready to reinstall. no fun when you install a new OS and find all sorts of problems. make sure they're also compatible with 98, which they should be, but there might be some ME specific software.

It's not a small job - but its fun. (hehe). If you know a computer whiz it would be best for him/her to take care of it for you. But then again, learning is always fun.
