Win 98se backup (by seagate) no longer allows me to exclude files. Even after reformatting HD and reloading win 98, this feature no longer works. When I open the "exclude" tab to set up parameters I get an error message "illegal operation, will be shut down" Backup used to allow exclusions but not any more. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

You either have a corrupt file or a missing file for the progrram. I would run a virus program to check for viruses, a trojan program and also check for ad-ware.

These sites will do the above free.

    Ad-Ware Checks and removes spyware
    http://www.spychecker.com/download.html

MooSoft 30 day evaluation program for trojans
    http://www.moosoft.com/features.php

PC Pitstop antivirus program Must have IE Explorer 4.0 will not work with Netscape.
    http://www.pcpitstop.com/antivirus/default.asp

    PC Cillion

After you do the above uninstall the program, reboot and then reinstall it so you have all good files and you know that none will be missing.

It should work as it was designed to.
