After booting system, three things happen—or, don't happen.
    1. Roxio-5 Project Selector does NOT load immediately, ie., the icon does not show on the speedbar—see also next Items.
    2. When Roxio is NOT loaded, it takes a long time before dialing the internet.
    3. If Roxio is not loaded, and I shut down, the following dialog box shows:

"DDE Server Window" This program is not responding. I have to select 'close' program to shut down.

Where do I go from here?

    Hi and welcome.

Post your startup items via, start, run, msinfo32 and hit ok, go to software, startups, edit, select all, edit, copy and come back and paste.

Also how much ram do you have? Right click my computer, properties.

I was able to remove the NetMeter program via the "Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs" function. Now, this icon does not show on the speedbar. However, after re-booting system, this did not eliminate my original problem.

I see that the "Openwares..." line, referred to by $teve, is listed in the above log. But this cannot be removed via the "Add/Remove Programs" function.

I hope the above will aid the forum's efforts to help me.

p.s.: For some reason, I was unable to download the "PestPatrol" program. I kept on looping to the same screen!

Hold tight Dottie, I don't read the logs, I just ask for them, someone else hopefully will be along soon, if not, don't get frustrated. There are so many hijack logs and not enough folks to go around some days.

Run hijackthis again and put a checkmark against these entries....double check
    in case you miss anything....
.....then,close all browser and outlook windows including this one and "fix checked"

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CriticalUpdate] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe -startup
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Openwares LiveUpdate] C:\Program Files\LiveUpdate\LiveUpdate.exe

    Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.
This is the dll in question, 'nmtracer.dll' move all instances of to the right hand pane and hit "finish"

Reboot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://helpdesk.its.bethel.edu/resnet/Documents/Antivirus/Safemode.html
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Locate and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wucrtupd.exe
    C:\Program Files\LiveUpdate [FOLDER]

Any trouble deleting these let me know.

    ;)

    Success!

I was able to follow the directions, and I now have a visible "Roxio-5 Project Selector" icon.

    AcaCandy and $Teve...
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

Great! Thanks for the follow up, I've been out of town, but it's always nice to get caught up on the success stories :D

I'd still post one more log for the final check up ;)

You need to work on trimming down that startup load. Other than ScanRegistry, SystemTray, and Norton, very little else needs to be running in the background.

A trimmed down startup load will benefit your computer by having more system resources, less error messages and freezeups, quicker startup and shutdown times, and better performance. (y)

As you all can see, I haven't done any "startup load" trimming. I'm not really sure on which applications can be, and should be, removed. When I visited "Pacman's Portal" and the "Startup Problems" sites, I got totally confused.

btw, the "netmeter" problem was my doing. I recall that I responded to an email, and I paid for it.

Again, thanks for your help. I was at loss on what to do. You have all helped to stabilize my system.
