I have acquired an older Gateway with an O/S of "ME". It opens fine, but I can not get a keyboard or mouse to work. The computer asks for the disk or for me to answer questions, that I can not, due to the lackn of an operational mouse or keyboard (very frustrating)! How do you get the computer to accept a mouse or keyboard?

Have you tried going to safe mode and see if it will finish installing the keyboard and mouse? Are these USB or PS/2?

Windows ME comes with built-in drivers for a keyboard and mouse, and they should be operational after the computer starts and loads the desktop.

Are the keyboard and mouse plugged into the round PS/2 ports or into the rectangular USB ports? Have you confirmed the ports work? Have you tried another keyboard and mouse?
