I recently acquired my mothers computer that is very cluttered. She has a 192 MB hard drive that she seperated in three different ways C: D: and E: (dont even ask me why). Anyway, she is running ME on it and had borrowed the software from a relative so I do not have the software for that. I have 98SE of my own that I can install but I cant get rid of ME. Let me tell you what I have tried so far.

    1. I just inserted the disk and of course it gave me the error that it will not load because ME is an update.

    2. Off the web I got directions to do MD-DOS prompt
    CD\ at windows prompt
    FORMAT C:/S then enter
ME does not respond to /S
As I am sure you can tell I have no real clue what I am doing but I certainly did'nt think it would be this hard.

Well anything you could suggest would be great! Thanks in advance!

If your 98/SE is the full version and not an upgrade, you can repartition and format, deleting Win. ME. You will need a boot disk for this.

Go to Bootdisk and download a W98SE boot disk.

Run FDISK and delete all the partitions.

    Run FDISK /MBR

Run FDISK and create the partitions you desire

    FORMAT C:/S

    Install W98 from the CD.

You have no idea what means? You need to download 98/SE boot disk onto a floppy, put the boot disk into the floppy drive reboot and type in fdisk. This will get you to the partition table, delete active partition.

Hit esc and get back to main menu, now create a partition and then activate it. Reboot,(control, alt, delete) type in format C: /s.
just hit enter when it says volume label. Then put win98/se cd in and follow directions.

make sure you choose boot with cd support.

Hmm, you might not know enough to get rid of ME here goes nothing

If you have a computer ALREADY running windows 98
click start -> settings -> control panel

Double click add/remove programs and click startup disk

Put a floppy in the drive and proceed to make the disk

THEN put this disk into the trouble computer with Windows ME when it is off then turn the power on with this floppy in the drive

After the computer boots to a: type fdisk and hit enter then delete all the partitions (option 3) its all step by step. Once you delete all the partitions then hit 1 and make a primary partition. Once finished reboot with the floppy in the drive and have your Win98 cd ready and in the cd-drive

    Then type
    format c:
    hit enter

Once it formats type d: (or e: depends where your cd drive is)
    hit enter
    then type cd\win98
    hit enter

Type in setup and your done.

If this isn't good enough instructions get someone to help you that knows this stuff by heart

    Cheers
