    I have a p4 3gig intel machine with 1gig of ram
My problem is that win xp prof seems to limit to the number of windows I can have open, and to the functionality of these windows( sometimes a menu option will not be available). If I close down a window..all is well again.
I am talking about maybe having maybe 9 windows open.. a couple of apps and a couple of internet explorer windows etc.
    Any suggestions...

Personally I have windows XP machine at home and up until recently it only had 512Mb of RAM in it and I know for a fact I could have more than 9 windows open at once.

I have Windows 2000 here at work with 512Mb in and I currently have about 20 windows open and no problem with memory or window functions.

Could you describe the symptoms you are getting a bit more, or provide a screen shot of any error msg you are getting?

At the moment I have 6 internet explorer windows open plus flash mx,macromedia dreamweaver mx, photoshop cs 8, cuteftp ,and windows explorer.
At this point I cannot open the file menu in photoshop, also if I hit ctr alt del nothing happens, just a windows error beep..

How much free RAM do you have now? Photoshop is a big program.

When you use Ctrl+Alt+Del at other times what happens?

If you have enough drive space set your paging file to (custom) 2000/2000 Min & Max, click Set and so on. Re-boot and see if it makes adifference.

If it does, you may want to put in another 1024Mb, if the mainboard will take it.
