    Hi guys,
I'm having some troubles setting up Windows 2000 server (SP4) and was hoping someone could help with a particular problem I'm seeing.

I've set the machine up as a Domain Controller and as the DNS. The computer has been given the name "Frederick". (Actually the names have been changed to protect the innocent :D )

I have added, to the DNS, an alias to "Frederick" called "Fred".
When I 'ping' "Fred" or do an 'nslookup' on "Fred", it resolves the name to "Frederick" as expected.
If however I try to access a folder using UNC notation, ie \\Fred\SomeFolder\ it does not work. If I use \\Frederick\Somefolder\ it does.

Is there something else I need to set up to enable this sort of addressing. I thought adding an alias to the DNS should allow me to do this.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
