hi everyone. i did a virus scan using avast and it picked up the following...

    Win32 trojan-gen (qurquchhsttrq.exe) c:\windows\profiles\...
    VBS:Malware c:\windows\system --- (folder.htt)
    VBS:Malware c:windows\system32 --- (folder.htt)
    VBS:Malware c:\windows --- (folder.htt)
    VBS:Malware c:\program files --- (folder.htt)

the win32 trojan was found on 8/21/03 and the four VBS was found on 8/28/03. once these were found i moved them all to the virus chest since i have no idea of what to do with them.

i ran hijackthis and the log is below:

After reboot, maybe you should download AdAware6 181 and run a scan to clean your system. All you need to know about how to download and set it up is found HERE
Important DonĀ“t forget to use the update function to download the current reference file .

You also need to empty your virus vault in your AV program.

you said earlier to that i need to empty my virus vault. are you saying that i need to delete the win32 trojan and the four VBS:malware (folder.htt) files?

also, since i didnt need those 01 hosts files you had me to fix with hjt. how do i keep them off my system and are they gone permantely since i used fixed? how often do i need to run hjt? i run adware and spybot everyday or every other day. this site is the best! :) thanks again for your help!! :)

Once the files have been isolated to the vault they are safe to delete. Remember to also empty your Recycle Bin.

As for running HJT, it's more of a tool to tell you what is running at start up. If you don't know what the entries mean, it may not be much to you.

However, if you have any kind of file comparison program, what you can do is keel a known clean copy of your HJT log and then compare later runs to see what, if anything has changed.

    Good Luck (y)
