    hi, welcome to TSG.

you don't appear to have a firewall, even if you have a router you still need
a software frewall, downlaod the one from the link below!

    Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition

    http://www.filseclab.com/eng/download/downloads.htm

    http://www.download.com/Filseclab-Pe...8.html?tag=dir

use this site to confgure filseclab , see page 7 and post 165 of that thread!

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=92710

Use this site's shields up to test filseclab and see if it is stealthing, some rules may have to be changed to " out " to pass the tests!

    http://grc.com/

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

For filseclab jsut follow the instructions here at his link below, just take your time, it's not that difficult, be confident! :)

use this site to confgure filseclab , see page 7 and post 165 of that thread!

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=92710

Ok I'll take it slow for you, next step is to run smitfraud step 2 to fix the baddies!

    Then we'll get the rest!

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Looks like everything is ok! Thank you very much khazars!

On a side note, I would like to learn more about the Filseclab firewall. Here's the guide for the setup you posted:

    (1) Go to the Monitor page of Filseclab. Click the Clear button.
    (2) Go to Shields Up! or the Sygate scan site (your choice)
    (3) Run the port scan
    (4) After the scan is concluded, check the Monitor page. You should have an entry for each port scanned, including whether the port was allowed/denied and the Filseclab rule that was invoked
    (5) Check the rule(s) that allowed port(s) - change the direction of the rule(s) to "Out"
    (6) Repeat steps (1) through (3) to see if the port(s) are stealthed
    (7) Repeat the entire process for the other port scan site

Is there a more detailed guide similar to these steps? I'm a bit comfused by the rule invoking thing at step 4 and at step 5, change the rule to "Out"? Does this mean i go to the Rules tab then right click on the rule numbers corresponding to the one on the Monitor tab and select property? If so, then I get the Modify Rule window then select Direction?

You have to install the firewall and then run a scan at

    http://grc.com/

choose their shields up test, if all the boxes are GREEN then you don't have to configure the firewall, but if some ports in the scan are closed or open, then you can use these steps below to find out what rules are repsonsible and then change the rule to "out" in most cases!

Downlaod and use these tools regularly as they will protect you and clean off a lot of spyware!

    ok clean log!

I don't know but it looks like Ripe server in Amsterdam, are you in the Netherlands?
If your internet connection is ok then I would ignore it and let filseclab keep blocking it!

You should now turn off system restore to flush out the bad restore points and
then re-enable it and make a new clean restore point.

How to turn off system restore

Here's some free tools to keep you from getting infected in the future.

To stop reinfection get spywareblaster from

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/downloads.html

get the hosts file from here.Unzip it to a folder!

    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

put it into : or click the mvps bat and it should do it for you!

    Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
    Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
    Win 98\ME = C:\WINDOWS

ie-spyad.Puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected

when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

    http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm

Winpatrol, protects your computer from hijackers !

    http://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrol.html

Use spybot's immunize button and use spywareblaster' enable
protection once you update it. you can put spybot's hosts file into
    your own and lock it.

I would also suggest switching to Mozilla's firefox browser, it's safer, has
a built in pop up blocker, blocks cookies and adds. Mozilla Thunderbird is also a good
    e-mail client.

Another good and free browser is Opera!

I have the same Virus but from what I've read, mine's much more serious. It doesn't seem to slow me down, or even do anything, except I will recieve this strange popup every once in a great while, I've done everything you told the other guy to do, but I need to know exactly what to do again because I confuse easily with these things. Thanks, and here's my SmitFraudFix Rapport.

Victis...Its best to start your own thread. Having more than 1 on the same thread can get confusing.
