I have windows 2000 on a compaq laptop. "Armada" style.
I have noticed that when I start it up it lockes up 4 or 5 times before finally working. Then once I get it to work , it is still very slow. I found that if I press ctrl alt del and look at the task manager, something called WIN32SL.exe is running 94 - 99 % of the processor. I believe this is the problem. Can anyone tell me what this is , and how to fix it . THANKS !! Ken

This utility which launches at startup is function is to collect system information for Client Manager. This DMI (Desktop management interface)software is made by Intel which is called Intel LDCM Client Manager and also shipped with Dell systems called Inspector Software. Not required in startup.

You can safely disable this. I am not certain where it is running from, but you can download startup control panel for Windows 2000 which will help you locate it.
