When I ran AntiVir9x I received an error message stating that access was denied to to win386.swp. Does this matter? I also received messages concerning win95_22.cab and win95_21.cab, both stating "Note - the archive is created by multiple volumes". Again, should this worry me? I would be grateful for your help. Thanks.

Those notifications are normal. Microsoft protects those files or, the virus maker can otherwise not scan there for whatever reason or both.

For instance, Norton Anti-virus does not say those files are not scanned but has an exclusion area that may contain those extensions you refer too, or just not report those by default. InoculateIT will give the same scrolling messages however, it's great like Antvir. AVG Anti-virus (FREE as well) does not report exclusions like Norton. No problem in either case on those as well as Antivir.
