Trying to help a buddy out here but this is really strange. He has a Acer Predator g5900 gaming tower, bought fully legit through EasyHome (one of those rent-to-own outfits) with Win7 Ultimate. It's been running fine for at least two years (when I last repaired it for him), but just recently it's been telling him he needs to re-activate it.

I told him to call MS support and they should be able to help him out... this is what they told him (quoting directly from a chat window):
"oh my god, just spent the last half hour with some moron who can not speak any english about the issue and basicly he said the key is right but being a pre tower, acer did not keep up some sort of agreement with windows so the key will no longer work."

This doesn't sound right... why would it just stop working suddenly, and what sort of agreement would mean Microsoft would refuse to reset the activation??

From what I can determine, the Acer Aspire Predator G5900 desktop originally comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
What is the exact Windows version that's on the Certificate-Of-Authenticity(COA) sticker on that one?

    Do the following in it:
Download MGADiag and save it to your desktop.
Double-click on MGADiag.exe to launch the program.
    Click "Continue".
Ensure that the "Windows" tab is selected (it should be by default).
Click the "Copy" button, the leave the report window open.
Paste the report back here in your next reply.

Coulda been Premium, I was going from memory. I'll see if he can send me a pic of the sticker.

Are you saying your buddy's computer is at a different location and you don't have a "hands on" with it?
If that's the case, it's going to be difficult and time-consuming to help you here.

I've edited your initial post for language. Even though you are quoting someone else that doesn't mean it's OK to post a shortcut for profanity. Please be more careful in the future as this is a family friendly site.

That often occurs if there is a fault on the disk. I have had that error on several perfectly licensed machines.

    Run a thorough disk check.
