Problem: I have Windows 95 but almost all the files that deal with the WinSocket and dail up protocols have become corrupted. This prevents the use of a modem, cable modem or router. The solution is suppose to be reinstall Win95.

Every time I use my Win95 Upgrade CD the error code that I get is roughly this:

"The version of Window 95 on the PC is more current than the
version on the CD. Setup Disabled."

The intent is put the PC back on my home network which uses a Linksys router and cable modem.

    Any advice?

rename the file win.com to win.bak and try the install again.

I THINK its in the windows directory but its been a while...run a search.
