win98 defrag and scandisk

:mad: :confused: About a week ago i tried to run defrag and it only got about 5% done then it restarts, I tried it several times but never gets passed this point, also i tried scandisk and it did the same thing... Need help

Before running scan disk hit control alt delete, end task on everything but systray and explorer. Also disable your screen saver, now try to run scandisk.

If that doesn't work restart your machine, just after the memory count and before the windows loading message start tapping the F8 key to get the startup menu, choose safe mode from the menu. Once booted into windows in safe mode try and run scandisk and defrag.

Scan disk worked by just closing all programs, but i had to do safe mode for defrag to work. Thanks:)

Hello, All

Hey, twest17

try this also next time you defrag go to

find files & folders & look for App.Log &

delete it then do a reboot & then defrag

Make sure you have your screensaver turned off if you use one. That will definately interfere.... Also make sure that you have your AV disabled....
