Power supply died on my computer.Son put my hard drive into a different case(different cpu, motherboard, etc) and the serial mouse only works in safe mode.I've reinstalled WIN98 to no avail. On broken puter mouse was a PS/2.Puter says mouse/driver are working properly

    Foggy,

The problem with transplanting a Boot HD into a new configuration is that many "memories" about the old configuration are carried forward.

The old config was a PS/2 mouse, the 'new' one is a serial mouse. The Windows software is expecting to see a PS/2 mouse...it's not there.

In Safe-Mode, fewer assumptions (memories) are used during boot up, and fewer drivers and devices are loaded/supported. So, the serial mouse works.

Check the Mouse Device in Control Panel/System/Device Mgr. If there is a PS/2 Mouse installed, remove it. Reboot and see if the Serial Mouse is found, OR use ADD Hardware Wizard to add a serial mouse.
