RF123Your problem could be a hardware issue:
1. Go into your BIOS & look for anything disabled.
Consider setting your BIOS to load defaults, but you might have to re-install W7 et al.
2. The electronic circuitry for the audio components could have failed. The W7 update might be co-incidental.
3. Did an electrical black out or brown out occurred in your area at the time of the problem onset? Have you smelled anything unusal near your computer; something burned or dead?
4. Did you hear any popping or sizzling?
5. There is a commerical program "The Troubleshooter", by Smart Certify Direct, that will test audio from a DOS environment, boot disk. I suggest that you look for something similar to test your laptop's audio circuitry.
