When sending a picture via email in aol the send window that shows progress of file transferring hangs. It doesnt display any percentage, just stays on the screen. The mail is sending , but with that box on the screen you cannot do anything else on aol, and end up using cntrol alt delete to get out of aol. any suggestions? thanks!

Welcome to TSG! AOL is AOL and as such, their program uses a lot of Windows resources. Are you on a dialup connection? (phone line?) Are you using AOL9? Are you using WinXP Home Edition? If you are on a dialup, sending, or uploading a picture can and will take a long time. This is very true if you didn't adjust the size of the picture in some software before you sent it. This will speed up the upload. Since AOL9 is using big resources and if your modem is a win modem and you don't have much RAM, then yes, your computer will be slow and appear to stop while sending pictures in your email. If you don't have access to a broadband connection in your area (ie. cable DSL) then the best thing to do is to drop AOL, remove it from your computer and get a local ISP (Internet Service Provider). Many local movie rental stores have them far cheaper than AOL. Then, while uploading pictures may take the same amount of time, at least you will be able to multi-task while sending. :D

actually I have cable and the picture and email itself are sending the same speed as always. The problem is the window that shows the sending progress of the email ( with picture ) is not disapearing off the screen. Even if you click on cancel it does nothing and because that window is up, you cannot click on anything else in the aol software. It really has nothing to do with the speed of my service- it is just that popup type window that will not go away- thanks

That is why you should supply as much info about your system and problem as you can so "we" here can give answers that are more direct than just guessing. If you have cable, then I have to ask why are you on AOL?

At any rate, I would simply reinstall AOL9 (what ever version you have). AOL's software will install an "a" copy and transfer all your settings. See if that repairs your problem with their mail program. If it does, then you can remove the old copy via ADD/REMOVE icon in the Control Panel. Just click on AOL and the software will detect all copies of itself and ask you which one you want to remove.

If you don't find an answer put this in the AOL browswer and click where it says e-mail and search through to see if anyone else had this problem or post and someone will know what it's about. If you are using the new 9.0se LOL.
