was the KEY on the PC itself - theres usually a code stuck on the PC / laptop

with the XP disk you should be able to delete the existing XP and format the Harddrive

i wondeer if the dell has a recovery partition its pointing you to
also you will need to get all the drivers off the dell site first - for sound, video, mobo etc - you should have a TAG number on the machine to get access to the downloads for your machine.

you have got the bios set to boot CD first

    Hallo,
If you are unable to find your cd key.I think, was the KEY on the PC itself .If you buy a new win home edition,First go to bios setup (by pressing del orF2) Go to secion boot.
Check first boot drive is cdrom or dvd drive.
Exit bios setup and save settings,Boot using with Xp cd.
Format hard drive and install new os.
Follow the screen instruction and enjoy.
