I am trying to boot up my computer and reach a black screen with a loading cursor on it. It will not load any further

I have tried to system restore and it says it cannot restore to point and try a new restore point. I have tried to create a backup file in the command prompt portion of the automatic repair screen. And it doesn' load any further.

It also will not load further than the cursor screen even when going into safe mode. Any ideas on what is wrong?

Are you able to boot into safe mode and it still shows black screen or can you not even get into safe mode? A Windows Reset may be the easiest option if you can get it to work by booting into the recovery mode or with a windows 10 install or recovery disk

This seems to be a fix a some people

press the Windows Key + P + Down Arrow to switch the display to my (single) monitor.

Is this a desktop or laptop

It happens. I have built many systems and still run into issues at times. Sounds like the drive may not be formatted correctly. I would reformat and start over with a clean install

Type diskpart
List Disk
Select disk 1 or correct #
Clean or clean all if you want to delete more then 1 partition
convert gpt
Exit

Then your disk is ready to install and fresh copy of Windows
