We have a HP laptop that is slow booting up and when you try to using it everything seems slow. My wife uses Word and Excel on Office 360 and these documents take an age to open correctly.

Is there anything I can check to see if everything is working as it should be?

Sorry to sound vague but I don't know how best to describe the problem.

Thanks

The hard drive could be going.
How old is this machine?

McAfee, I have just disabled the microsoft one drive in the start up menu and the laptop seems to be working better. is this a sensible thing to do, looked at the task manager while it was starting and that was the programme that was taking the most resource?

McAfee has been known to slow down a system of two!

Since you are a Windows 10 machine, all you need is the built in Defender.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Background Apps and turn off 'Let apps run in the background' . It should make your system run a little faster.
