    Hello,

Does anyone know how to either change, remove, or disable the Windows password on a Windows 2000 Professional Operating system ?

I was given this from a company that went out of business, but unfortunately I do not have a password to get into it....and one was not supplied !!!!

If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated !!!

    Thanks in advance

    Jim

    Try start>settings>control panel>users and passwords

Untick the box for "must enter a user and pasword"

I can't even get that far...after the system boots up...it comes to the Windows User Name & Password screen.......that is where I am stuck.

So I can't get into the Start/Control Panel area ?

    Any ideas ???

    Thanks again for the help

Nope. You can try a frw of the easy ones. password , 123456789 , "Blank" . If not you can search the web to see if someone figured this out! I think I saw it somewhere before, I am not sure. But we are not allowed to help you break into systems so I think this is as far as I can go!

I agree with the above post. Best bet is to reinstall 2000. XP is about the same price though.

    You have two other options.

    1. Use a Win2000 password cracker which should find the password. A web search will find one.

    2. Or try this which i've seen work. Boot the computer to a command prompt using a 98 boot disk. Yes I said 98. Then type the following 2 lines at the command prompt and hit enter after each:

    a:\del c:\winnt\repair\sam

    a:\del c:\winnt\system32\config\sam

There's a space between del and c: there. Then remove the boot disk and restart. When you get to the login screen type administrator as the user and leave the password blank. Then hit enter and see if you get in.
