what would cause the lettering to dissapear on the start button and drop down tabs all lettering has dissapeared the operating system is windows 2000 and is there anyway the system can be restored without formatting the drive have already reinstalled the operating system and rebooted computer but that didnt help thanks for any help I recieve

yes a virus scan was done and spyware also it happened after wife deleted some programs but I dont know what she deleted and everything works it just has no lettering on anything

Have you run sfc [system file checker] or tried a repair install of win2k? Either of these will repair system files that may have been changed by an app.
