Hi, I installed windows 7 recently and had no problems, then I started adding external hard drives, only to find windows 7 would hold with a flashing curser, when i disconected the hard drives wand rebooted win7 it would start normaly, so for a couple of weeks if I needed to reboot I would disconect the hdd`s, but for the last week new errors are occurring, if my comp reboots itself I get an error message saying disk read error press alt delete etc to restart, then I sometimes get another error message saying boot image corrupt, if i restart again it sometimes go`s into win 7 repair after the attempted repair i get a message saying win7 has a problem communicating with a device like a hdd, it also says status: OxcOOOOOe9 info: an unexpected I/O error has occurred.
could this mean the Hdd drive is on its way out, any help guys, I am pannicking a little, I have some very important docs on the hard drive. thanks
Hi Guys, after 20 or so attempts at rebooting it finaly kicked in, and started so at least I can get my docs off the hdd drive, but can anyone help with sorting this so it dosent repeat. cheers
Ok you need to be more specific, the I/O error you've mentioned...does it say which partition / drive ? post a screen shot / there will events in the Event Viewer fire that up to find out.Start>Run> eventvwr.msc
Hi, firstly thanks for the help, The I/O message mentions no partition, I have started the event viewer, but there is so much information I dont know what to look for, can you be more specific in what info you want me to extract please
In Event Viewer Under, Expand Windows Logs then Right click on System, select Filter Current Log, Now under Event Level Select Critical, Warning, & Error, You will have the list of errors, Now look for "disk" under Source.
Buy a IDE Cable they are really cheap & then see if you get any issues.
Also this may be a power issue, i was once facing similar issue, my DVD-ROM would disappear or the hard drive partition would disappear or give me I/O error. I changed the Power Supply & it works now.
