I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition, 32-bit version, on my older PC. I got a virus, so I figured it was a good time to upgrade. I currently run Windows XP Pro. I have a PE845MAX2 motherboard. When I try to install it, I get to the screen where they are asking me where to install Windows 7. It does not recognize any drives, and asks me to browse for drivers. I have installed the SATA drivers ( I double clicked on the .exe driver file but saw no results), and disabled RAID in my bios. Still having the problem. Can you help me diagnose this problem? Thanks.
Your specs are required. He stated its an older unit thus you cant assume that its running xp. It could be 2k for all we really know. Try formating it with an seperate program like if its a maxtor drive use maxblast 5 ect.... then try to install win 7. I had the same issue at first think that is how I got it on there.
I am indeed running Windows XP Pro. I have 1 GB of RAM, and an 80 GB hard drive. I ran a system compatibility program on the Windows 7 CD. The program told me that I had to run the 32-bit version of Windows 7, which I am told it the x86 version, not the x64 version.
I just reformatted my computer using my old Windows XP Pro CD and it reformatted just fine. I am thinking of now trying to install Windows 7 again.
My motherboard is a 845PE max2 by MSI. Is there any information I am not furnishing that would be helpful?
I am looking at a manual for the MSI 845PE MAX2, it doesn't have any SATA interfaces. Yet in your original post you said you installed SATA drivers. Do you have an add-on SATA controller? Or is your hard drive IDE (PATA)?
That would be my gusse here. Unless of course he is refering too the two vice versa. I wouldnt worry about tring to do an upgrade unless XP was activated. Rather a fresh install from the Win 7 disk after a format.
