looking at a Windows 7 PC today and they had mucked up the library structure.

The had a folder on the PC called
mypictures_latest
Documents 2

so I made a copy of the content of these folders - just to be safe - and put them in a folder called
Wayne > pictures
Wayne > Documents 2

then i looked at libraries and removed some of the public folders - as they did not want those

then i recreated
my documents
my pictures

BUT the PC would not allow these to be created in the USER folder
as they all ready existed

The library - then had
My Documents
My Pictures
BUT properties shows those as being in

USER>Wayne>Documents 2 > documents

and all the files recreated themselves in the documents folder

not sure how that all happened - as i say it was in a mess to start and i seem to have made it worse

would like in libaries just to have

Documents
Pictures
Music
Videos
And just have them all under the user name folder ?
as
My Documents
My Pictures
My Music
My Videos

but i cannot create those folders as i'm told they exist - but i cannot see them
i have set show hidden folders

any ideas please

Thanks for the quick reply
yes, I think she mucked it all up and trying to sort it out - i made matters worse ( wellnot worse ) the libraies are how she wants now
Just she uses a cloud system and that has
c:\user\wayne\documents 2\documents
as the path
and being a bit OCD - she cannot live with that and wants it so
c:\user\documents

where are the real folders kept
I see under
user\appdata\roaming\microsoft\windows\libraries
have the files in

so not sure whats real

If i reset the libraries on W7
any chance the data will disappear ??

i suspect i will have to put all the data onto an external drive and be sure its real
and then reset everything and copy back
but that a lot of work

any other ideas....
or ways to look into the system and re-order

dont really have a PC i can just fiddle on - which is a shame - as if i played a little that would help

working my way through a few sites and videos
thanks for the link
trying this one too

thats making sense slowly

so where does the USER\MY DOCUMENTS live

in the Libaray its a shortcut to
User\my documents
so i assume thats the real location
BUT - i dont see a my documents under user
and I was not allowed to create one
:(

getting closer to understanding this - thanks for taking the time

Thanks for the link, going through that

If i restore the default libraries in W7
then would
Documents > My Documents be reset to a default location
which i assume is
....\user\my documents
AND be an empty folder

then i can goto
.....\user\wayne\documents 2\documents
and copy all the files to
....\user\documents

then in libraries
if i click on
Documents
should see
My Documents
and the properties of the folder should point to
....\user\documents
and have all the folders&files in

so back to clean
setup

and i can do the same to
my pictures
which at the moment is
.....\user\wayne\pictures\mypictures\my picture - latest

dont ask !!!!!!!!!

if you are on a test rig , would be cool to prove if that works

if i click on the library - my documents
and properties
it shows up as location
....\user\wayne\documents 2\documents

hope that makes a little sense !!!!

Put Documents and Pictures where you want. Set Windows to those locations. Add those folders to the Libraries. And you're back in business.

Everything is only a static link to C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents\xxxxxxxx
This is where the real files are.

if I recall correctly, it's a db issue that is either unsolvable or rather difficult to implement. I'm not a db kinda guy, as you can't kick them when they go south, but that's my understanding.

so i cannot reproduce it :(

On the PC

we have
libraries>
>My Documents

that is a view to

.....Sara\My Documents
which if I click on properties - says its
.....Sara\wayne\documents 2\documents
and all the files are there

so we appear to have two views set up

in .....sara\documents - are all the old document files and they dont change ,

if i update a file - in libraries > my documents
OR
Sara\my documents - they are changed and seen from both views
BUT in the background

...sara\wayne\documents 2\documents
are also changed

confused

are you trying to set up two libraries for two users on the same rig? I'm also getting confused; what is the final goal?
