im running windows 7 on a dell e1505 laptop with 2 gigs or ram, 2ghz core duo CPU, and a 7200 rpm WD 320gb hard drive. the computer was nice when i first installed windows 7 but now its kinda slow. i ran a few programs like ad aware, spybot search and destroy, and glary utilities but the performance is kinda "hickuppy." for example you type something and there is a a small delay and then a burst of characters typing out on the screen. or when watching a video on youtube the video plays then pauses for a sec and starts even after the vid has fully downloaded. what can i do to speed up the laptop?
Of the cuff I've think either malware or system overload. I wouldn't count the malware out untill you use some more modern programs such as Malwarebytes/SuperAntiSpyware/Microsoft Security Essentials/NOD32. You two you named are quite old and frankly I don't bother with either of them anymore. Also both of thoses are just Antispyware and you didn't name an antivirus program.
Also be sure to check the number of programs and what programs you have running in the background. Typically in a Windows 7 system you will have up to 70 processes running. Anymore then that will likely be overloading your system. Also check the task manager while it's open to see if any particular process is chewing up alot of memory or CPU cycles.
AVG like most security programs are hogs. There really isn't any free AV program I can recommend to my customers except for Microsoft Security Essentials.
