    Hi.

Just bought a new computer with OEM windows 7, 64 bit with 3GB RAM.

Loading of applications is very slow and program running appears to be slower than Windows XP.:(

This is very disappointing! Nothing found on malware sweeps.

Also Windows update wants to update everyday with same updates! How do I stop this stupid behaviour?:(

Any ideas on how to solve these problems?

    Howdy,

What Malware Scans have you used?

You could post your HijackThis log and see if anything shows up

    Download HijackThis to your desktop
    • Double click on HJTSetup.exe on your Desktop
    • Click Run and Install
    • It will install to Program files by default
    • it will launch Hijack This
    • Click on "scan system and save a logfile" usually in notepad
    • Copy and Paste the logfile in your next post
    • Using Ctrl+A to copy All and Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

If you're really having trouble with copying and pasting, simply attach the log. We'll do the copying and pasting. [IMG]

Was it so slow when you first got it, or after you started adding things like TeaTimer and a Registry "cleaner"?

    Hi,

Seemed to be slow on first day before I added software.

However, Bullguard Security suite was OEM pre-loaded and had annoying adverts. I installed by old products, Zonealarm and Avast and then uninstalled Bullguard. I also took out Windows Firewall to leave only one product type operational at any one time. The load speeds and general activity speeds have now increased greatly. Do registry cleaners slow things down?

I have not updated my drivers as I am not sure how to do this?

Did the HiJack results show anything?

Again, many thanks for your help.

PS Just found out that my RAM is only 3GB instead of the purchase spec of 4GB. Currys have offered me a free upgrade and this may be slowing things down further!

You certainly want to get what you paid for (memory), but 3GB instead of 4GB will give you slower speeds only if you are using at least one memory intensive program.

Sometimes firewalls and security suites don't un-install completely and cleanly; you may want to see if Bullguard has a Removal Tool to clean up everything.

As far as I know Registry Cleaners don't per se slow things, but since they are Registry Wreckers the damage they sometimes do can cause slowness or worse.

I'm not a HJT log reader, but I did notice a reference to Bullguard.

To update drivers get the latest from your PC (or motherboard) manufacturer's web site; install the chipset first.

Though I used to be a zone alarm fan, after installing Windows 7 in a virtual machine and doing some careful monitoring and testing, I uninstalled ZA and no longer recommend it.

ZA isn't giving you the control you think you have; it is letting anything by Microsoft past without warning you and you cannot stop it from doing that. I also was having some LAN problems that in some fashion turned out to be related to ZA (at least, the problems vanished when I removed ZA).

I switched to Online Armor. Took some time to train it, but it is doing everything I want done.

I hate preloaded software, If uninstalling that garbage doesn't work I would just format (provided you have the cdkey to reinstall) and start fresh.

    Just my opinion

Your HJT log above shows Bullguard is still installed and I see no sign of Avast. Please post a new HJT log since your uninstalled Bullguard and installed Avast.
